EPISODE 119:
GHOSTS OF VIETNAM

Doing the show, authors T. Fox Dunham & Phil Thomas have had the honor and pleasure of speaking to artists from around the world. On episode 119, T. Fox Dunham interviews crime/horror author Elka Ray, resident of Hoi An, Vietnam. Elka comes on the show to talk about her career, share an excerpt from the new crime anthology, A Time for Violence, and tell us about Vietnamese cultural views on the supernatural. Vietnam is mostly a Buddhist country that practices ancestor worship. Elka tells us about the creation of hungry ghosts: angry spirits that are created when a body goes missing or is damaged. And she tells a number of ghost stories from the region including the story of a haunted house in Ho Chi Minh City that required a cleansing after the presence of gaggle of Buddhists awoke a hungry ghost. David Walton narrates a ghost story about a cursed tombstone and an excerpt from Elka’s story, One Hit Wonder. Episode 119 is a fascinating look into the culture of Vietnam and presents the wisdom of a talented female author.

EPISODE 118
THE MONSTERS OF SUMMER

Horror authors T. Fox Dunham & Phil Thomas are the monsters of summer. On episode 118 of What Are You Afraid Of? Horror & Paranormal Show, the hosts start with a ghost story, playing part one of the Ghosts of Spring Avenue, researched and written by Mister Ghosts of Gettysburg, Mark Nesbitt, from his 8th collection of haunted Gettysburg tales. For years, families have witnessed floating spirits, vanishing figures and phantom lights in the homes and apartments on this old road. English folksinger David Walton narrates the first part of this eerie supernatural story. Then Phil and Fox discuss common themes in horror movies and share another round of clown news! A birthday boy dresses like a clown and lures children with promises of candy. Also, Fox reports on a rash of EVPs broadcasted over Amazon Echoes. Is your Echo malfunctioning or taking requests from the dead? The hosts play another song from The Zombie Dandies, and David Walton narrates Fox’s flash story of alien occupation, Reality TV. Aliens conquer the earth and turn it into a television channel. Send us your summer ghost stories through our website at www.whatareyouafraidofpodcast.com.

MERCY

(A Horror Medical Thriller Novel from Blood Bound Books.)

FANGORIA gives MERCY 3.5 out 4 Skulls – “Dunham has channeled his many brushes with the other side into the exquisitely rendered, lyrical supernatural hospital thriller MERCY.“ READ FULL REVIEW HERE.

Part medical horror, part supernatural suspense, MERCY is a hard-hitting fever dream of a novel. I enjoyed the hell out of it!” ~ Tim Waggoner, author of The Way of All Flesh and Eat The Night

Pain and poetry flow in equal measure through these pages. Dunham’s prose strikes deep and hits all the right notes. MERCY is unforgettably vivid.” ~ David Dunwoody, author of Hell Walks and The 3 Egos

William Saint is dying of cancer. On most days death seems like a humane alternative to the treatment. Stricken with fever, William is rushed to Mercy—notorious as a place to send the sickest of the poor and uninsured to be forgotten—and finds the hospital in even worse condition than his previous visit. The grounds are unkempt, the foundation is cracking, and like the wild mushrooms sprouting from fissures of decay around it, something is growing inside the hospital. Something dark. It’s feeding on the sickness and sustaining itself on the staff, changing them. And now it wants Willie.

This was my death.
Life is an addiction.

Love is the only force that is real. Read . . . and understand what I saw. I put it in metaphor. You do not understand what you do not understand.

EPISODE 117
THE GHOST OF EMILY

The guests and staff of the Flanders Hotel located along the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey speak of the ghost of a young woman called Emily wearing a white dress who plays with doorknobs, unscrews light bulbs and runs around corners just on the edge of sight. This spirited young woman dances at weddings or sings in front of the piano while below the ghosts of mob victims scream out in the catacombs. On Episode 117 of What Are You Afraid Of? Horror & Paranormal Show, horror author T. Fox Dunham shares the story of the haunted Flanders Hotel as part of his ghost stories from the beach. He and author Phil Thomas talk about the ghosts of the Jersey shore and share the history of Beltane, discussing the many old traditions to welcome spring. Oh, and more clown news! The clowns have returned, and they’ve gone criminal! To finish the show, English folksinger David Walton narrates part two of the The Seventh Man, a story of paranoia and isolation in the arctic, by Arthur Quiller-Couch.
